Gunnery Residency: Closes: 15 October 2008; Location: Western Australia; Email: lizzie@artsource.net.au; Artsource in Western Australia is calling for expression of interest from a Western Australian visual artist for their Gunnery Studio Residency in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. The residency takes place from October to December each year and includes free accommodation and use of a studio.
White Heat: Closes: 17 October 2008; Location: National; Email: Dr Julie Batholomew; Curator Dr Julie Batholomew invites proposals for White Heat, an exhibition of sculpture, installation and the non-functional vessel in any ceramic medium. The exhibition offers a space for discourse of social, political and cultural concerns and will be held at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum in conjunction with The Australian Ceramics Triennale in 2009.

Bega Valley Art Awards: Closes: 20 October 2008; Location: South East Arts Region, NSW; This biennial event is open to residents of the South East Arts Region - Cooma Monaro, Eurobodalla, Snowy River, Bega Valley and Bombala Shires. Call for Papers: Closes: 31 October 2008; Location: International; Email: info@australianceramicstriennale.com; The 1st Australian Ceramics Triennale (formerly the National Ceramics Conference), Facing the Future, will focus on the relationship between contemporary ceramic practice and the emergence of diverse social, cultural and technological global forces. The panel invites individual papers or suggestions for panels on any aspect of triennale's three broad themes - Facing Asia, Future Practice and Activate/Cultivate.

ARC-funded research project: Closes: 31 October 2008; Location: National; Email: Kathryn Robinson; The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking a suitably qualified applicant to participate in an ARC-funded research project that explores the poorly understood Islamic cultures of Eastern Indonesia (Sulawesi, Maluku and the lesser Sunda Islands). The successful applicant will join a research team in the Department of Anthropology, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. The PhD will be based around twelve months fieldwork in an Islamic community. This postion offers an annual stipend.
Megalo Printmaker in Residence program: Closes: 31 October 2008; Location: National; Email: info@megalo.org; The Megalo Printmaker in Residence program provides participating artists with a stipend and six weeks access to the Megalo Print Studios in Canberra. The choice of printmaking equipment and facilities includes screen printing on fabric or paper, etching, relief, lithography or use of the digital studio. The purpose of the residencies is to support the making of the new work that addresss Megalo Print Studio objectives of fostering excellence and innovation in print-based art practice.
Craft Culture submissions: Closes: 31 October 2008; Location: National; Email: Joe Pascoe; Craft Culture is an important stimulus for debate in the craft and design sectors. It offers a range of views, analysis and experiences relating to craft and design theory and practice. For the 2008 edition Craft Victoria is opening up a submission process and will consider any articles, blog extracts, essays, reviews, artist statements, pictorial and design-based essays. Articles must have been written and developed in 2008 and examine craft and design practice in Australia.

Design Researcher Award: Closes: 7 November 2008; Location: International; Email: Kirsten Freeman; The Design Researcher Award (DRA) is available for early-career researchers to promote the development of ongoing design research cooperation between the UK and Australia. The Award supports new links between researchers through the provision of short term research visits to the UK in various areas of design.
Janet Holmes á Court Grant: Closes: 15 November 2008; Location: National; Email: nava@visualarts.net.au; Financial assistance is granted to professional artists for the public presentation of visual arts, craft and design. This can include, but is not limited to, framing, media releases, media photographs, advertising, space rental, installation costs, promotional printing, mail outs, documentation, freight, travel, equipment rental, insurance, technical assistance and opening costs.
Red Ochre Award: Closes: 15 November 2008; Location: National; Email: mail@australiacouncil.gov.au; The Red Ochre Award pays tribute to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist who, throughout their lifetime, has made outstanding contributions to the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts, at both national and international levels.
Wilson HTM National Art Prize: Closes: 28 November 2008; Location: National; Email: info@artworkers.org; The Wilson HTM National Art Prize is an acquisitive art award open to emerging Australian based visual artists practicing in any media. The award was devised with the aim to acknowledge the difficulties faced by artists in terms of national and international recognition for achievement; and the difficulties faced in regards to long-term financial stability.
Japan Foundation: Closes: 28 November 2008; Location: National; Email: Eruyo Horie; The Japan Foundation is accepting 2009 grant applications for Facetnate!, their support program for Australia-based emerging visual artists and curators. A stipend is available to assist with the presentation of an exhibition/event at the Japan Foundation Gallery Sydney, which demonstrates a strong Japanese influence.
Indigenous Travel and Professional Development Fund: Closes: 30 November 2008; Location: Victoria; Email: artsvic@dpc.vic.gov.au; The Indigenous Travel and Professional Development Fund provides professional development support for Indigenous arts practitioners and arts workers who reside in Victoria. The program supports individual Indigenous artists and arts workers to undertake professional development activities and/or represent Victoria at significant national conferences, trade fairs and markets.
ANAT Professional Development: Closes: 30 November 2008; Location: National; Email: anat@anat.org.au; This is a quick response fund managed by the Australian Network for Art and Technology. The fund supports professional development opportunities for Australian media arts practitioners to attend and participate in national and international residencies, exhibitions, workshops and conferences. Linden Postcard Show: Closes: 1 December 2008; Location: National; Email: admin@lindenarts.org; The Linden Postcard show is an open entry award exhibition featuring small format contemporary work, 6 works will be selected to be reproduced and sold as Linden Postcards. Two-dimensional works must not exceed 30cm high x 30cm wide - this includes the frame. Three-dimensional work must not exceed 30cm high x 30cm wide x 30cm deep - this includes stand.
Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award: Closes: 1 December 2008; Location: Victoria; Email: gallery@manningham.vic.gov.au; The Manningham Ceramic Art Award has been developed by Manningham City Council to support Victorian ceramic artists and acknowledge the special place that ceramics has in Manningham's, and the regions', arts history. This biennial acquisitive award exhibition is open to all Victorian ceramic artist and will survey current Victorian ceramic art practice.
Hill End Artists in Residence Program 2009: Closes: 5 December 2008; Location: National; Bathurst Regional Art Gallery launched the Hill End Artists in Residence Program in 1998 to allow contemporary Australian artists the chance to experience and respond to the historically charged landscape of Hill End. Artists can apply to spend four weeks living and working at Haefligers or Murrays Cottage. Upon completion of their residency the artists may have the opportunity to exhibit their work at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery or at the Jean Bellette Gallery, Hill End.
Fantasy: Closes: 10 December 2008; Location: National; Email: info@expertiseevents.com.au; Australian Patchwork & Quilting and the Australasian Quilt Convention are hosting a quilt competition and exhibition. Entrants may choose a traditional or contemporary approach to their quilt and the theme for this year's challenge is Fantasy.
Artsbridge National Arts Tasmania: Closes: 31 December 2008; Location: Tasmania; An out-of-season grants program. Artists working in any artform may apply at any time for assistance for travel costs to enable them to respond to invitations to showcase, present or perform their work nationally. Artsbridge is subject to funding availability.
Tom Malone Prize: Closes: 30 January 2009; Location: Natiional; Email: Robert Cook; The Tom Malone Prize is an annual acquisitive prize open to glass artists throughout Australia. The Prize provides an opportunity for artists working in Australia to showcase and be recognised for their work nationally.
