HASS on the Hill Registrations now open
Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences on the Hill (HOTH) brings people from research, education and practice to Canberra for two days. The main aim is to meet members of Parliament, to enable people from the HASS sector to influence the national policy-making process. National Handicraft Festival
Valerie Kirk, Head of Textiles, Australian National University School of Art, was invited to attended the National Handicraft 2004 Festival in Loa PDR at the Exhibition Center of the Ministry of Commerce as a guest speaker in the one day forum, part of the week long festival program. The Australian government has recently launced a new website, specifically for Free Trade Agreements. The site contains a wealth of practical information compiled by Commonwealth agencies to help Australian businesses understand and take advantage of our FTAs with the United States, Thailand, Singapore and New Zealand. Doctorate of Letters awarded to Janet Mansfield
The University of Tasmania awarded a Doctorate of Letters to the ceramic artist and publisher of ceramic magazines, Janet Mansfield. The honorary degree recognises Mansfield's contribution to the field of art, in particular, the art of ceramics.
Congratulations
The 2005 Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship for emerging artists has been awarded to five of the most promising young Australian artists. Congratulations go to Lea Donnan (travelling to Paris), Alyson de Groot (to New Zealand), Jasper Knight (to Japan and China), Jess MacNeil (to India) and Emily McIntosh (to Europe).

The Pacific Edge
Regional Arts Australia's fifth National Conference 2006 will be held in Mackay, Queensland in September 2006. The conference and will explore the artistic and cultural connections between Australia and the Pacific region in Mackay and will consider current themes affecting regional communities including the great Australian cultural traditions associated with the Reef, the Ocean and the Beach.
